1. People
2. Goats

Poor agricultural practices and increasing population of people are leading to desertification and deforestation. Goats chew plants down to the roots, and so assist in the desertification.
References :
Lack of economic development and corruption.

Many of Africa's environmental problems are made much worse by the poverty and lack of money available for simple, effective solutions.

Then you have countries like Nigeria, rich with oil, but the wealth stays with the corrupt few, who are now adopting terrorist tactics to maintain their wealth and power.

Think outside the box.
References :
Deforestation and over demand on drinking water. I lived in Malawi for a while and these are two of the most important environmental problems facing the people there. Despite this however they still persist in chopping down every tree for fire wood - even the fruit bearing trees - and safe drinking water is a scarce commodity.
